<br>Due to increasing international operations, DB Cargo required a dual-system electric freight locomotive. Bombardier responded by developing the TRAXX 1 family, a further development of the BR 145. The TRAXX 1 family consists of the BR 185.0 and the BR 146.1. The BR 185.0 is multi-system capable and can be equipped with additional Swiss pantographs. The BR 146.1 is not multi-system capable, but has been equipped with destination displays for passenger transport. The BR 185.0 is basically available in two versions, one with only German pantographs and one with additional Swiss pantographs.<br>
